Frequently Asked Questions
Diocese of Brooklyn Teacher and Administrator Qualifications:
Candidates for Traditional Teacher Preparation Programs:
- Be a practicing *Roman Catholic committed to the mission of Catholic education
- Have a Bachelor’s Degree or higher
- Hold a valid New York State Certification or be eligible for certification
Candidates for Alternative Teacher Preparation Programs:
- Be a practicing *Roman Catholic committed to the mission of Catholic education
- Must have completed the introductory component (40 clock hours of field experience, must pass two NYS Teacher Certification exams)
Candidates for Principal or Assistant Principal:
- Be a practicing Roman Catholic committed to the mission of Catholic education
- Have 5 years successful teaching in a Catholic, private or public school setting
- Have a Master’s Degree conferred by a college or university registered by the New York State Board of Regents or accredited by an appropriate regional accrediting agency
- Have New York State certification in School Administration and Supervision or the equivalent or demonstrate eligibility for certification
- Have an Initial Certificate of Faith Formation or be eligible to begin such certification upon employment
Some qualification exceptions are possible for NYS certified Science, Math or Technology Teacher applicants.
